Renting a Dumpster for a Roof Replacement
Shingle tear-off is the classic dumpster job — and the classic overweight load. Here's the Bakersfield roofer math.
The shingle weight math
A "square" (100 sq ft) of architectural asphalt shingles weighs roughly 250–400 lbs torn off. So a ton covers about 5–8 squares per included ton, and a typical 20-square Bakersfield ranch roof runs 2.5–4 tons of debris total. Translation: plan on extra tonnage (quoted at our actual disposal cost, never a markup) or staged swap-outs for bigger roofs.
Placement that roofers love
- Tight to the eave — debris slides straight off the roof into the can; we place with boards down to protect the driveway.
- Same-day or next-day delivery — roof jobs don't wait, and neither do our deliveries.
- Street placement? City right-of-way needs a permit — the permit guide covers it; driveways don't.
One can or two?
Most one-layer 20-square roofs fit one can with extra tonnage; two-layer tear-offs and tile roofs usually want a swap-out plan. Tell us squares and layers when you book and we'll spec it honestly — roofing contractors across Oildale and Rosedale run standing accounts with us for exactly this. Old satellite dishes, gutters, and the dead swamp cooler on the roof can ride along too.
