What We Take
What We Don't Take (and Where It Goes Instead)
Updated June 2026We haul almost everything — but a short list of hazardous items legally needs licensed handling. Here's the list, and the Kern County answer for each one, because 'no' isn't helpful without a 'here's where.'
The can't-take list
- Wet paint, stains, and solvents — Kern County's Special Waste Facility accepts household paint free for residents; dried-out latex cans (fill with cat litter) become regular trash we can take.
- Household chemicals and pesticides — same Special Waste Facility; keep them in original containers.
- Asbestos and suspect materials — old ductwork wrap, 9×9 floor tiles, popcorn ceilings in pre-1980 homes need licensed abatement before any hauler touches the debris.
- Fuels, oils, and propane tanks — auto parts stores take used oil; propane exchanges take tanks.
- Car batteries — free drop-off at most auto parts retailers (they often pay you).
- Medical sharps and medications — pharmacy take-back programs, never the trash.
Rules and facility hours change — check Kern County Public Works' special waste pages or call us at (661) 282-7085 and we'll point you right. This page is guidance, not regulation.
Everything else? Yes.
Electronics and e-waste, appliances with freon, mattresses, tires (small quantities), furniture, green waste, construction debris — all standard loads. When a cleanout turns up a few hazardous stragglers, we set them aside, finish the job, and leave you a one-trip plan for the rest.
Why the list exists
Licensed hazardous handling protects the crews, the landfill workers, and the water under the Valley. It's the same reason we donate and recycle first: the goal is stuff ending up where it should, not just out of your garage. Full hauling details live on the junk removal page.
What We Don't Take questions
Can you take dried paint cans?
Yes — fully dried latex paint is regular waste. Pour in cat litter or paint hardener, leave the lid off to verify, and the cans can ride with any load.
What about a few tires?
Small quantities are fine with a per-tire disposal fee. Large stockpiles get routed to a tire recycler — we will quote it honestly either way.

"Absolutely wonderful service. These guys were quick, friendly, happy, and ready to work. The free appraisal was fast and they immediately started once we agreed. They cleaned up any scrap left from what they took and even offered to grab more if needed. This company is CSUB student owned and operated, the 2 founders are who helped me and it was great. Highly recommend these guys to anyone in need!"
