Moving to Bakersfield? Read This Before the Truck Loads
Thousands of families trade LA and Bay Area square-foot prices for actual houses here every year. A word from the locals who unload the aftermath: don't pay to move junk over the Grapevine.
The over-the-hill math
Interstate-style movers price by weight; even local long hauls price by truck space and hours. That worn sectional costs $150–$300 to move from Glendale — and would cost $95–$179 to replace-or-remove on either end. Purge before the survey and the moving bill drops twice: smaller inventory, smaller truck.
What your new Bakersfield house wants instead
You're gaining a garage, probably a yard, maybe a shop. The city-apartment storage hacks can stay behind — and so can the furniture sized for an 800 sq ft unit. Arrive light; Bakersfield will furnish you generously (estate sales here are excellent, which is a hint about our day job).
