Getting Rid of a Swamp Cooler in Bakersfield
Nothing says Bakersfield like a rusted evaporative cooler riding a roof ten years after the AC went in. Here's how they come down.
Roof units vs window units
Window and ground-mounted coolers are a standard appliance pickup — disconnect, carry, recycle the steel. Roof units take more care: power off at the breaker, water line capped, and a controlled lower so neither the unit nor your shingles lose. We bring the straps and the ladder logic; you keep your roof.
What about the hole in the roof or window?
We remove the cooler and leave the curb (the mounting box) unless you ask otherwise — your roofer or handyman caps it properly, which is the right order of operations. Window units leave a frame gap most homeowners patch the same afternoon.
Is a dead cooler worth anything?
As scrap, $10–$25 of steel — which we recycle, and it's part of why cooler pickups price at the low end of single-item rates. While the truck's there, most folks add the other patio-and-garage stragglers; from Oildale rooftops to ranch houses in Arvin, it's rarely just the cooler.
